The litle caiman ( babilla ) in Caoba
The spectacled caiman (Caiman crocodilus), is a crocodilian reptile found in Central and South America. It lives in a range of lowland wetland and riverine habitat types and can tolerate salt water as well as fresh. The species' common name comes from a bony ridge between the eyes, which gives the appearance of a pair of spectacles. During colder weather the black pigment, found within their skin cells, wil expand making them darker.
The peccaries in CAOBA
Peccaries are of the family Tayassauidae or New World Pigs and members of the artiodactyls suborder Suina. They are found in the southwest of North America, Central and South America.

Little hicotea
Two babies
Let me introduce you to our two little hicoteas (Colombian slider), lat. Trachemys callirostris, a turtle from Colombia and Venezuela. This is a vulnerable species, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The two little fellows were born in the reserve. We have here more than 50 hicoteas.
GUACO
Guaco
The first week of August 2011, Guaco was attacked by a wild animal and unfortunately he didn’t make it. Luckily nothing happened to Lola, who is now under observation. For all of us in Caoba this has been a big tragedy and a deep lost. Guaco not only delighted us with his whistle, but also with his demonstration of affection and love to Lola.

The Kogui bridge - Reserva Biologica Caoba
The Kogui Bridge
The Kogui bridge was built by 10 Koguis using traditional materials and ancient methods. In the Caribbean region only the Koguis have kept this knowledge alive.
When the bridge was completed a ceremony was held and each person spoke of their feelings and its significance to them. This is a very spiritual process
for the Koguis who remained with the bridge overnight, talking and meditating about it. For them, nothing is made without reason or respect for "the Great Mother".
According to the Koguis, a "pagamento" must be paid before crossing the bridge. Payment does not take the form of money, it is shells or even good thoughts that are a valid currency.

Guaco and Lola - Reserva Biologica Caoba
GUACO AND LOLA
On April our beautiful Gold and Blue macaw couple Guaco and Lola decided to start a family and in about 4 weeks we will have new members in the reserve.
The story of Guaco an Lola: Lola was brought to the reserve first. She’s a lovely macaw who loves and is used to, to be with humans. Guaco instead likes to be on the trees. When Guaco arrived to us, he felt in love for Lola immediately, but she did not like him at all. After loads of fights (Lola loved to go down the tree and visit the people, therefore Guaco called her and then punished her for doing that) they found a way and fall in love. It took this couple 2 years until they decided to make the big step and have tiny macaws. Its wonderful to see how they protect their nest and Guaco feeds her.
Unfortunately Guaco and Lola had problems with their first attempt at family and rejected the eggs. Happily they are trying again and hopefully this time it will work out.
